“Well, that’s different”

Where will the tracks lead in 2020?

As we say here in the Midwest, 2020 is ‘different when it comes to travel for most all of us. While it is true that I proclaimed in 2019 that is was finally time for me to ‘slow down travel’, I never imagined to what extent this would happen. In January as what would be the pandemic emerged, I wrote a short piece acknowledging what I assumed would be my (lack of) travel in 2020. Here we are 8 months later and how is it going?

2020 is the first year since 2007 that I will have no international travel.

First the positive aspects.

Physical Health

Being in one place for awhile has allowed me to finally establish healthy eating and sleeping habits. I lost a good amount of weight, am eating well, exercising regularly and sleeping the best I have in years. Having zero commute time to work gives me time to shop thoughtfully (mostly farmer’s markets) and cook everything from scratch. I love grabbing a bike from NiceRideMN whenever I feel like going somewhere nearby.

Financial Situation

Working with in-demand cloud computing means that my business is fortunately still on solid footing despite the economic fallout from the pandemic. My work has shifted from aggressively taking as many…
