Am I Recovering from COVID-19?

January 2020: “Just step up on the scale” the nurse said. Several years of avoiding the truth was about to come to an end. “Damn my inflamed gallbladder — this is going to be bad.” I thought. Indeed the dreaded result appeared up in my chart — obese. My doctor was nonchalant, “I see this often, you might need gallbladder surgery or you might live with it.” Then he added “I could put you in the hospital for your blood pressure, but it’s probably that high due to gallbladder inflammation.”

Some 20 years ago I had faced a similar challenge. I knew what I had to do.

Getting Professional Help

January 1999: I had a different kind of reason for being obese — complicated pregnancy. My challenges were similar though. My doctor at that time said “Well you could have a hysterectomy and start blood pressure and cholesterol medicine, or…” The ‘or’ changed my life. I hired a nutritionist, trainer and acupuncturist and followed their advice to the best of my ability. I lost 50 pounds that year and regained normal health until, well, now. So I knew the path I needed to be on.

I recognized that my body’s ‘check engine’ light was on again now and it was telling me to make significant changes immediately.
